I feel like when you have kids, your organizing and reorganizing all the time. Or, you just don’t even have time to organize and it all gets stuffed straight into a closet, never to be seen again. Going into a New Year, it’s always nice to get things started on the right foot and a few simple organizing hacks will help get you going in the right, clutter-free, direction.
Master Bedroom Closet
Truth be told, if I could afford to build out our entire master closet to my dream specifications, I would do it. However, since I’m not made of endless cash, I had to come up with some clever ways to fit my our wardrobe in the limited space that our walk-in has.
My first must-have was this Organize It All Durable Chrome Closet Doubler (1346W) from Amazon. This awesome edition allowed me to double up my clothes within minutes and give me extra space!
For my tall boots, which never stand up right, and the rest of my boots in general that don’t fit on the skinny shoe racks, I got an awesome basket like Goodpick Large Cotton Rope Basket to keep them contained, while giving a touch of decor to the closet.
I’ve been through my fair share of shoe racks. The angled ones never fit shoes for my petite size 5 feet, and they also don’t work for my flats or athletic shoes. I love the idea of getting a shoe storage unit like Seville Classics 2-Tier Stackable 6-Pair Woodgrain Resin Slat Shelf Sturdy Metal Frame Shoe Storage Rack Organizer that not only fits all of my shoes properly, but is also stackable so you can add more to your closet to fit your needs.
We have certain items that we just don’t use as often and were unnecessarily taking up valuable drawer and hanger space like our swimsuits, snow clothes, Halloween costumes, old pants pre-pregnancy that I saved for potentially delusional reasons, and more. I purchased storage cubes like Royexe – Storage Cubes – (Set of 8) to separate each of these items into categories and store them on the upper shelf of our closet. I’m only 5’0″, so using that shelf for items I don’t need to access regularly worked perfectly! I labeled each of the bins to keep it organized so I could easily find the items when I need them.
Lastly, after organizing, I finally ordered Only Hangers Flat Wooden Dress Hanger (Petite Size) – Pack of 25 that work great for my XS and S shirts, without leaving the horrible pointy hanger marks that regular hangers always leave. They look gorgeous and I’m using them with all of my long sleeve tops until I can get more to upgrade the rest of my hangers too!
Refrigerator
I don’t know about you, but I have family members that LOVE to throw things back in the refrigerator at wherever seems the most convenient in that moment. I came up with this simple hack that not only looks great, but helps remind everyone (and by everyone, I mean my husband), where things go.
For this simple hack, I labeled each of the drawers and side shelves with Chalkboard Labels, which I also used to label the food storage containers in the pantry.
Office Closet
Finally, the office closet may have been my biggest feat yet, as it was a complete disaster area! First of all, I had to throw away some items like the CD container that I haven’t touched since high school. I’m not entirely sure why I even have it at 28 years old but here we are! The board games I finally found space for in our family room, so I was able to remove those as well. As for everything else…well these are the tools the came in handy to get our junk closet going from this, to this.
I got an arrangement of storage containers, depending on what I needed them for. When it came to papers and crafts (or things I’d like to easily remove at a moments notice), I opted for AmazonBasics Foldable Storage Bins Cubes Organizer, which came in a 6 pack and were inexpensive, but great quality for the price! They hold a lot and I was able to organize the bins to my needs.
For loose cables and holiday decorations, I got EZ GENERATION Storage Bins Set, which contained everything perfectly!
Finally, and most definitely my favorite, I purchased Elf Stor 83-DT5528 Christmas Storage Organizer, which may be the greatest organizer I’ve ever owned in my life. For the few times of year I need wrapping paper, ribbons, and bows, having them take up (and clutter!) an entire shelf in the closet was just ridiculous. With this handy organizer, I could keep everything in one place, save space, and pull it all out at once when I need it.
I hope you found these tips helpful. In the upcoming months (hopefully sooner rather than later!), I’ll be tackling my biggest organizational challenge yet: my son’s toy collection before our new baby arrives. Subscribe to stay tuned for these tips and more!
